Multifocal Technology

Bifocal Lenses

The original multifocal glasses. They feature a distinct line separating distance and near vision areas. The line is visible to observers and causes a sharp ‘jump’ in vision when changing from distance to near. These lenses are less common in 2025.

Office Lenses

These lenses provide clear vision for everyday tasks like using your computer, phone, iPad, or reading a book. They're designed for part-time wear, so they're perfect for when you need extra support.

They can be used as an addition to progressive lenses, a first time multifocal lens or as an option for patients who have struggled with multifocal lenses in the past.

Progressive Lenses

These were invented after bifocals with no visible line to observers so no one else knows you are wearing multifocal lenses - you will look 'young!' and see a gradual transition from distance to near allowing some computer and reading vision.

Advanced Progressive Lenses

Early multifocal lenses had limitations due to the complex physics involved in combining three prescriptions into a single lens. If you have a more involved prescription or have previously struggled with multifocals, our Optometrists can personalise your lenses using advanced biometric technology—delivering clearer vision precisely where you need it most.
